Ś+P Fr. Jan Kość

It is with sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of Fr. śp. Jan Kość, who was a retired priest and former Pastor of Holy Trinity and Saint Joseph in Linden, NJ.

Fr. śp. Kość was a priest of the Central Diocese of the Polish National Catholic Church in the NY/NJ Seniorate. Our sympathy to his wife, Władysława, children, family members, relatives and friends. The Prayer Service for Fr. śp. Jan will take place on Friday March 21st at 6 pm at St. Peter and Paul Parish, 126 River Drive, Passaic NJ. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, March 22nd at 9 am. May he rest in peace. Niech odpoczywa w pokoju wiecznym. Amen.

Rev. śp. Jan, 76, of Dunellen, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on March 14th. Jan was born and raised in Rokietnica, Poland. Growing up he was an avid soccer player and fan.

Father Kość graduated from the theological seminary in Krakow and was ordained in 1972. He briefly left the priesthood when he met the love of his life, Władysława, in 1979. Together they lived in Vienna, Austria, before settling in the United States in 1980. In 1981 they were married at Sts. Peter & Paul’s Polish National Catholic Church in Passaic, which is where Father Kość rejoined his calling to priesthood thanks to the late Fr. Sr. John Slysz. Father Kość first served in Middleport, PA, and later became a priest at St. Joseph’s Parish in Irvington, Union, and finally Linden, where he served Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church for 42 years before retiring in 2022.

Beloved husband for 44 years of Władysława (Jaronczyk). Devoted father of John Kość and his wife Donna, Anna Diaz and her husband Daniel, and the late Robert Kość who passed away in 2024. Cherished grandfather of Steven, Angelina, Julian, Joseph, John, Abigail, and the late Franklin. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Father Kość is also predeceased by his beloved and missed parents, Władysław and Adela (Skop) Kość, as well as his brother Tadeusz Kość and sister Ella Kuznia.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 4-8PM at Sts. Peter & Paul PNCC,126 River Drive, Passaic. A funeral mass will be held at the church on Saturday, March 22, 2025 beginning at 9AM. Entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Arrangement by the Shook Funeral Home Clifton, NJ.
