Christmas Party For Jesus

Our annual Christmas Dinner was held on Sunday December 8th with great attendance. We are thankful for the delicious, abundant, and festive food donated by Deacon David Gaydos and his wife Laurie and prepared by talented chef, Hughie Vickerilla. The menu was exceptional: Tilapia with Mango Sauce, Roast Chicken, Roast Pork, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Cheese Ravioli, coffee, soft drinks and more…

Our School of Christian Living students presented their “Happy Birthday Jesus” program which invited the audience to participate in singing Christmas Carols. A special cake was made to honor the birth of Jesus. Santa came and distributed gifts to the precious children of the parish asking them in return to be good for another year.

We thank Renata Cyman and those who helped her to decorate the hall, and the Adoration Society and Daughters of Holy Cross for donating over 20 trays for a Tricky Tray raffle. In addition to that, there was a 50/50 cash prize and ANS Basket of Cheer raffled. Our words of appreciation are addressed to those who helped to set-up and clean up after the event. A thank you is also extended to the parishioners who contributed desserts, sold raffles, and invited friends for this celebration and anyone who helped to organize this event.

Please join us for our schedule of Christmas Holy Masses:

Christmas Eve (December 24th)

Christmas Vigil Holy Mass at 4 pm with children
Shepherd’s Holy Mass at 10 pm

Solemnity of the Nativity (Christmas Day – December 25th)

Helping Ss. Cyril & Methodius Parish

Our prayers and best wishes are with the Pastor, Fr. Mariusz Zochowski, and all parishioners of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Perth Amboy, NJ. It is heart breaking that this beautiful church was destroyed by the fire on Monday October 28th.

I helped Fr. Mario by celebrating Holy Masses in that church and also attended various NY/NJ Seniorate liturgies such as our annual Corpus Christi Holy Mass with procession. The national Mission and Evangelism workshop was also held there. The people of that parish are friendly and have a deep faith. Fr. Mariusz and some parishioners dedicated countless hours to renovate and remodel the church, rectory, and the parish hall. On Monday evening October 28th I witnessed many people praying in the front of the demolished church with tears in their eyes and broken hearts. It was difficult not to share their feelings. Bishop Bernard Nowicki came to express his support, and together with Fr. Mario inspired those gathered with their prayers of hope that the parish will be rebuilt through the dedication of its people. It will be rebuilt by the people of faith who are the “living stones of the church.” I need to mention that the Holy Eucharist, the consecrated bread – the real presence of Jesus was unharmed as well as the processional cross. This is indeed a sign of the presence of the risen Lord among us and in us. A wonderful start of a new beginning.

At the request of Fr. Mariisz and his parishioners present on Monday along with Deacon Konicki, serving our diocese, we prepared a GoFundMe site so people of good will could offer donations online to help the parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in this very difficult time. You can also donate by mail to:

Thank you and God bless your generosity.

Fr. Joseph

Annual Blessing Of Pets

The annual Blessing Of Pets will take place next Sunday, October 6th at the beginning of the 11am Holy Mass. The Holy Mass will take place in the parish hall. Well behaved dogs, cats, fish, birds and all God’s creatures are invited with their owners. The blessing will be given in commemoration of Saint Francis of Assisi.

As we know, animals trusted St. Francis and he treated them with courtesy. Near the end of his life St. Francis composed a song of praise and thanks to God for all his creations, called “Canticle to Brother Sun” – also known as the “Canticle of the Creatures.” From this song we know that St. Francis did not perceive himself isolated from other creatures. He simply assumed that all creatures – not only humans – form one family of creation. So we are encouraged to bless and praise God with cats, dogs, birds and all God’s creatures.
