Today’s liturgy – Sunday, February 7, 2010

Today in each of the three readings, we will hear about God’s call to three different people. Each one feels unworthy. Each one resists God’s call. And yet, when they offer their inadequate talents to the task, God supplies the rest, and now we know them as three great and holy people: the Prophet Isaiah, Saint Paul and Saint Peter. We are each called by God, sometimes to what may seem like impossible work. But when we listen with the intention of saying “Yes” and doing what we can, God provides what we need. Let us pray for ears and hearts that are open to God’s call.

SOS – Haiti Earthquake Update

Last Sunday’s donations totaled $147. The Parish Committee has decided that all donations will go to support the “Doctors Without Borders Foundation” for the Haiti Earthquake Relief. Envelopes are located in the vestibule of the church if you would like to help those affected by the earthquake on January 12, 2010. On that day, the capital city of Haiti – Port-au-Prince, close towns and villages, were affected by this terrible and deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake which killed an estimated 200,000 people, injured 250,000 individuals, and left 1.5 million homeless.

On January 19, 2010 the Herald News had an article about the Haitian Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Paterson which assembles imperishable food, clothing and supplies for those in need. My wife and I recently went there to deliver some clothing, food items and toys (left from the last year’s Flea Market). We were warmly welcomed by the assistant pastor of that parish and informed that they already shipped two large containers through the Dominican Republic to Haiti. Those who wish to donate any imperishable food items, light clothing, and supplies may bring them directly to that church or call Jean Claude Douge at 201-654-5671. If you are unable to take your items to that church, you may drop them off in our parish hall. The Parish Committee members will assist in delivering your donations to Haitian Bethel Church, Paterson.
